Military & Veteran Families

Members of the military and veterans served our country proudly and we want to inform them that they may be eligible for nutrition assistance to ensure that they and their families have access to nutritious meals.

SNAP Employment & Training

SNAP Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) helps SNAP participants gain skills, training, or work experience to increase their ability to obtain regular employment and become economically self-sufficient.

Breastfeeding is a priority of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and WIC mothers are strongly encouraged to breastfeed their infants unless there is a medical reason not to.

Farmers' Markets

FNS supports healthier eating though its diverse farmers’ market initiatives like the WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP), the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), and by promoting Farmers Markets that accept SNAP benefits.

Hunger Free Communities Best Practices

In 2010, USDA supported the creation of hunger free community planning and implementation activities that made food more accessible to communities in need.  Summaries from these activities serve as best practices towards assisting other communities with similar challenges.

The People's Garden is an effort by the USDA to help communities start gardens and to create gardens at USDA facilities throughout the world.

Local and Regional Foods at USDA

USDA coordinates programs relevant to the local and regional food sector through the interagency Local and Regional Food Working Group. This collaboration fosters new opportunities for farmers, ranchers, and rural communities; improves efficiency in USDA programs; promotes local and regional foods; and expands access to affordable fresh and local food.
