Through CSFP, the Department provides nutritious commodities to help state and local agencies meet the nutritional needs of low-income elderly persons.
Each school year the Department programs agricultural commodities and other foods to states for delivery to program and commodity schools, nonresidential child care institutions, and service institutions pursuant to the regulations governing the donation of foods for use in the United States, its territories and possessions and areas under its jurisdiction (7 CFR part 250).
PART 250—Donation of Foods for Use in the United States, Its Territories and Possessions and Areas Under Its Jurisdiction
The Department purchases foods and donates them to state distributing agencies for further distribution and use in food assistance programs, or to provide assistance to eligible persons.
This notice announces the national average value of donated foods or, where applicable, cash in lieu of donated foods, to be provided in school year 2018 (July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018) for each lunch served by schools participating in NSLP, and for each lunch and supper served by institutions participating in the CACFP.
This rule proposes to revise and clarify requirements for the processing of donated foods in order to: Incorporate successful processing options tested in demonstration projects, ensure accountability for donated foods provided for processing, and increase program efficiency.
Final Rule: Codification of Poultry Substitution and Modification of Commodity Inventory Controls for Recipient Agencies
This two-part rule allows limited poultry substitution and full substitution of all other commodities except for beef and pork; and reduces current commodity recordkeeping and reporting requirements for some local level recipient agencies, such as schools.
