FDPIR Food Package Review Work Group

The FDPIR Food Package Review Work Group was formed in 2002 at the request of the National Association of Food Distribution Programs on Indian Reservations (NAFDPIR). The Work Group members are comprised of NAFDPIR officials, representatives from the Indian Tribal Organizations (ITOs) and state agencies that administer FDPIR, federal and Tribal health professionals, commodity procurement specialists from USDA, and FNS regional and national office staff that work with FDPIR. The purpose of the Work Group is to review the FDPIR food package on an ongoing basis, with the goal of revising it to better meet the nutritional needs and food preferences of program participants without significantly increasing overall food package costs.

USDA Foods in Schools

USDA Foods data collected via the Web-Based Supply Chain Management (WBSCM) system and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Order Receipt System (FFAVORS) were analyzed to conduct analyses on food purchases and spending at the national and state levels for four school years. These infographics display national data for school years 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 and include information on USDA Foods direct deliver USDA Foods data collected via the Web-Based Supply Chain Management (WBSCM) system and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Order Receipt System (FFAVORS) were analyzed to conduct analyses on food purchases and spending at the national and state levels for four school years. Multi-Agency Task Force Report to Congress, January 2018

The 2014 Farm Bill established a Multi-Agency Taskforce to provide coordination and direction for U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) foods administered by the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). The Task Force is responsible for evaluating and monitoring USDA commodity programs to ensure that through the distribution of domestic agricultural products, the programs support the U.S. farm sector and contribute to the health and well-being of individuals in the United States. This third annual report to Congress describes the activities of the taskforce in 2017.

Estimated Retail Value of the Average FDPIR Food Package as Delivered in Fiscal Year 2009

This report estimates the retail value of the average Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) food package delivered to FDPIR participants in fiscal year (FY) 2009. The estimated retail value
of the average FDPIR food package as delivered in FY 2009 was $78.44 per month per FDPIR participant. The report’s retail price estimate probably understates the true retail value of the FDPIR food package
because the cost of food from retailers located on or near Indian reservations is likely above national average retail food costs. The average SNAP benefit per person in FY 2009 was $125.31 per month.
