2013 Expenditures on Children By Families

The annual report, Expenditures on Children and Families, also known as the Cost of Raising a Child, shows that a middle-income family with a child born in 2013 can expect to spend about $245,340 ($304,480 adjusted for projected inflation* for food, housing, childcare and education, and other child-rearing expenses up to age 18. Costs associated with pregnancy or expenses occurred after age 18, such as higher education, are not included.

Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior - MyPyramid Food Intake Pattern Modeling for the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee

Modeling analyses using the MyPyramid intake patterns were conducted in collaboration with the 2005 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee in response to their research questions and to determine likely effects of possible recommendations on overall dietary adequacy.

Proposed Daily Food Intake Pattern Tables

These tables show the amount of food from each Pyramid group and subgroup suggested as daily intake amounts in the proposed Pyramid food patterns. Food patterns are set at energy levels ranging from 1000 to 3200 calories. The daily intake amounts are shown in both total quantity (cups or ounce equivalents) and in number of servings.
